el paso, new mexico, arizona, and palm springs california. and the thing.

here's part two of my trip through the desert. got a lot of desert poetry out of my veins and an entire new outlook for the new book. i'm very excited about it. very.

this is the first thing you see outside of el paso. cows for miles and miles. and it stinks. it's smells so fucking bad that i don't know how anyone could consume their meat or drink their milk. i mean look at them!! all penned up and living in their own shit. o!! how pretty, there's mexico waaaay in the background. puuuuurdy.

and there's mexico all bunched up against the us border. and el paso has a giant star lit up on the mountain facing juarez like a taunting older brother.

more mexico.

here's the cute little hotel i stay in on the border of mexico and the usa.

then you hit new mexico. everything starts to change...

why, thank you!!

it's an old cart. yes, that's an old cart. that's what we carry witches around in to drown or burn at the stake. just kidding. it's actually for chupacabra.

ahhh... the desert. not quite in bloom yet, but beautiful all the same.

just a blink and a handshake away is arizona.

then they scare the hell out of you about dust storms and why you should never stop even if you can't see and why you should stay in your lane and how you can't see and what a moron you are for driving instead of flying.

arizona rocks!

on the I-10 corridor you start to see billboards for the thing, mystery of the desert.
they're everywhere... you cannot resist. only 138 miles away.

and there will be about 20 more until you get there...

i don't know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

palms sweating, i start my journey... what's inside??? what is the thing????
what desert creature was captured?? alien, wicked creature, undead??? what??!!!!????

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT????????

the thing is... i'm not impressed.

the thing is... is that it's a bunch of shit and old crap with explanations. the thing is... is that we just fucked your ass for 200 miles through the desert and you stopped to look at all of our bullshit!!! that's the thing.

the thing is... is that it's torture.

looks like a good time. at least they're having more fun than i am.

this place is giving me more zits than i already have.

somebody dust me!!!

fake mummy under glass. hello fake mummy!!!! rahhhrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!

i'd pay to see this little cutie again.

"them brothers is puuuurdy!!!"

simply gorgeous. what a lovely view...

and eventually... maybe next week guys... you'll get your palm springs update with all the goodies. this picture is just a teaser. all my love,

xoxoxo

houston, texas to palm springs, california. (part one)

first off- hi guys! thanks for your emails while i was away. i'm working on going through them all now. i'm home- i'm safe. i've taken soo many pictures and been through so much the last nine days that i'm going to break this update into three parts. what's to come? well, i've got a working title for the new book, i saw a man die, and it rained in the desert. again. did i mention that i saw a man die? that'll be in part three.

thanks for making february 2005 the most successful month ever for toddicus.com. at the end of the month i'll tell you just how many hits the site received. i'm shocked. you guys rock.

driving from houston to el paso.

before i left i went to a few art openings with my friends.

got tipsy.

discovered that some people will eat the decorations. oh!! and put them back. how rude!

then i hit the road.

the san antonio skyline is the first sign that you're making progress. the alamo
is buried in those buildings somewhere. really.

those big wheels get really close to your face.

and just past san antonio the landscape starts to change...

and it actually starts to look like you're out west.

this is where they dynamite through mountains so we can actually drive in hill country.

and the landscape changes more... (remember- we're still in texas)

getting bigger...

must be cold outside!!!! (sorry. had to do it.)

i have now driven 550 miles and still cannot think of a book title!!

had to refuel the ol' bastard. everyone looks in the van expecting to see
a latino guy driving and then they do a double take everytime, like... "there's
a white boy in there!" i prefer "whitino" please.

yep.

it's an uphill battle from here. ok. see where the very left side of texas is? it's where a green line and a blue line merge. that's el paso. that's where i'm heading. right at the border of mexico. those pictures are for the next time though. and actually, this picture should have been about 4 pictures back- so this whole thing is just freakin' wrong!!! dammit!!!

ok. i'm better.

and while i'm at it here's a picture of a warehouse in houston that david and i snuck into. ok, back to the story. sorry. my brain is in the same order right now. trust me.

had to stop.

there are windmills everywhere- for miles. now, granted, this picture makes them look small- but if you could see them up close... they're just huge. see the other interstate lane at the bottom of the picture...? see both lanes? now look up at those windmills.

great sunset driving into el paso- thought the cloud looked like a ram. do you see it? it's heading to the right.

el paso- downtown- mexican border.

and this was supposed to be a picture of me safe at the hotel in el paso- but they were all 'que horrible' so this is me in austin three weeks ago. in hotel, of course.

ok- in the next couple of days you'll have new mexico, arizona, and california. then pictures of palm springs and death on the highway. o!! and a new poem or two as well.

love to you all... xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo (extra this time cause i really do love y'all. glad you're all still here.)
