interstate 10 from texas to florida - and brooksville, florida.

hey friends- i'm home from california now- so here's the first leg of my adventure to miami beach, florida back in january. i had to make a little pit stop to see some family on the way...

but first...

my nephew ian came over to my house to visit me when i got back from miami... isn't he the coolest!!???

it's my new myspace photo for the week. ok- now onto the florida pics...

just inside texas the hurricane damage is apparent from hurricane rita. that bitch.

then into louisiana there are no billboards and no houses with roofs.

then into mississippi, everything is gone because of katrina. another bitch.

i used to get gas here every trip down interstate 10 east. not now.

pretty self-explanatory, huh?

ouch.

no billboards- and look how they're bent. four out of every ten trees was knocked over.
it was the most destructive site i have ever seen- and this goes on for 500 miles. pure
destruction.

the mobile skyline survived- but there was so much damage surrounding downtown it was
insane. i saw one of those big 'karma chameleon' steam boats washed up against interstate
10. crazy.

so all of that depressing driving led me to one place- my uncle drew's south star ranch in brooksville, florida, about 45 minutes north of tampa. he had a lot of damage too- thus my cousin beau just happened to be down there at the same time helping rebuild, along with my snowbird grandparents.

it's not an unknown fact that beau and i can put away some drinks...

and this is how it starts...

one of those cunty hurricanes trashed my uncle's pool and hottub! bitches!
o, sorry, back to the drinking...

my drunken stare.

beau gets a bit kooky as well...

beau and i go into the cabana and decide that a second bottle of swill wine is the perfect
way to top the night off...

we must have taken five million photos this night... this is one of those, "hey let's make out!" photos.

beau kindly (and drunkenly) points out that i've already spilled enough liquid
on myself for one night. ha ha ha

eat this bitch!!!!!!!!!

too drunk for words. i love beau's 'my lips hurt real bad' shirt. we cracked up about that
for hours and then got onto the fact that it was 'brisk' outside and that only gay people would ever use the word 'brisk'. i've been texting him the word 'brisk' now for weeks. anyway, we got so drunk we don't remember going to bed, passing out- nothin'. but we woke up with hangovers like it was our freshman year in college. we drank beer, red wine, white wine- jesus god. the next morning...

look how hungover i am with my uncle drew and my grandparents!! i was supposed to drive to miami but stayed with my grandparents (90 and 87 years old!) and drew and beau. across the breakfast table beau looked at me after a stirring, hungover rendition of 'it's raining men' and said, "todd, please don't leave." and the rest of my family just looked at me and urged me to stick around. so we decided to go pick oranges, go boating, and have another late night- a little less drunk this time around.

beau gets the boat ready to rock!!

i grab a shitload of grapefruit and oranges from my uncle's orchard...

and tangerines too. there's that awful van i drive all over the country in the background. it's like, "hey kids! come and get some candy..."

drew backs the boat into the lake...

beau gets ready to jump in...

i just sit and chill and take photographs while they do all the work (gotta love straight people!) notice the orange all over my white shirt... that was my napkin after eating a crapload of grapefruits.

i will end up driving over this bridge the next day.

mangroves.

my granddad gives my granmother bunny ears. 90 year old humour.

i forgot my cigarettes! gosh! my uncle probably stole them. look at his face.

nope. he had 'em. my feet itched.

getting rid of my hangover. derka-derka durr.

after boating, my dear, sweet grandparents wanted to eat at wendy's. this is why they're starting that promotion to market to a younger generation. i thought it would be cute in sepia.

it started to get a little cold out... i told my uncle that he had a gay thermometer.

ok. this is the best part of the update. saturn was getting ready to zenith. so my uncle, cousin, and myself got the big telescope out to see it. around midnight we got my grandaprents out of the guest house and took them out into the pasture. it was so cool to have my grandparents look through this powerful telescope and see saturn. this little pink dot in the sky suddenly had rings and clouds- you could see the cassini gap and five of it's largest moons. too cool. what an amazing experience for me. i was truly moved- and probably will remember this moment as one of the most special and paramount moments in my life.

saturn looked a little bit like this...

have a wonderful day/night- love you guys... lots of goodies to come.
thanks for your sweet and kind emails
